Our campaign is powered by volunteers.
We do not receive government grants or political funding to cover the costs of operating the movement. Instead, the work we undertake is supported by people in the community who believe Oxley Beach deserves careful consideration, transparent planning and long-term protection.
Community action has always played an important role in protecting Australia's environment and public places.
We Are a Community Movement, Not a Charity
It is important to be transparent about our structure.
Protect Oxley Beach is not a registered Not-For-Profit organisation or registered charity.
Accordingly:
donations are not tax deductible;
tax receipts will not be issued;
contributions are used to support the activities of the Protect Oxley Beach community movement; and
financial administration is undertaken through a third-party fiscal hosting arrangement provided by Thirtyonezeroeight Pty Ltd, a local business providing support.
We believe being clear about how the campaign is structured is essential to maintaining community trust.
Donations received through PayID are deposited into a dedicated bank account used for the activities of the Protect Oxley Beach community movement.
The account is fiscally hosted by a third party Thirtyonezeroeight Pty Ltd.
Funds received and expenditure are reconciled using Xero accounting software for reporting and accountability. This reconciliation and reporting are supported by the fiscal hosting provider.
Bank statements and accounting reports are provided to Protect Oxley Beach for reconciliation and transparency at the end of each month.
This provides a documented process for tracking funds received and expenses incurred on behalf of the campaign.
When making a donation, please include the following reference: POB Donation
This reference helps identify community contributions associated with Protect Oxley Beach.
Our commitment is straightforward:
Money donated to Protect Oxley Beach is used for the costs associated with the activities of the community movement.
The campaign is not established to generate profits for individuals.
Volunteers contribute their time, knowledge and skills because they believe the community should have access to information and an opportunity to participate in decisions affecting Oxley Beach.
Donations help cover the practical costs of doing that work.
Across Australia and internationally, community groups have demonstrated that local people can play an important role in protecting places they value.
Successful community campaigns have taken many different forms.
Community conservation groups in Sydney have spent decades advocating for the protection of the Manly little penguin colony, working alongside government and researchers to protect habitat and raise public awareness.
The campaign demonstrates how local community concern can contribute to long-term conservation outcomes.
The Save Our Spit Alliance became a prominent community campaign in Queensland opposing development proposals affecting the Gold Coast Spit.
The campaign brought together residents, environmental advocates and community organisations and ultimately contributed to significant public debate about the future of the area.
Collaroy-Narrabeen Coastal Protection
On Sydney's Northern Beaches, community groups have played an ongoing role in debates about coastal management, development and protection of public beaches.
These examples are different from the Protect Oxley Beach campaign, but they share an important characteristic:
People care about places.
And when people care enough to become informed, organise, communicate and participate in planning processes, they can contribute meaningfully to decisions about the future.
Community Action Does Not Mean Being Anti-Development
Protect Oxley Beach's campaign is not about opposing all development.
We support investment in public recreation.
We support accessible community facilities.
We support an ocean or tidal pool where a suitable location can be identified.
Our concern is whether Oxley Beach is the right place for a major permanent facility.
That is a planning question—not simply an ideological one.
We believe it is reasonable for the community to ask:
Is this the right location?
Is the environmental impact acceptable?
Are cultural values adequately recognised?
Is the site appropriate under current planning controls?
Can universal accessibility genuinely be achieved?
Can traffic and parking be safely managed?
Is the infrastructure resilient to coastal hazards?
What will the facility cost over its entire life?
Who will ultimately be responsible for operating and maintaining it?
Have alternative locations been properly investigated?
These are questions that deserve evidence-based answers.
A Volunteer Movement
The Protect Oxley Beach campaign is driven by people who give their time freely.
That includes community members who:
research planning documents;
read technical reports;
attend meetings;
speak with government representatives;
communicate with Traditional Owners and community organisations;
review legislation and planning policies;
prepare submissions;
manage communications;
organise community activities;
maintain digital resources; and
help other residents understand what is happening.
Many people contribute in ways that are never visible publicly.
That is what makes a grassroots campaign possible.
Your Support Helps Keep the Community Informed
One of the most important functions of Protect Oxley Beach is making information accessible.
Planning proposals can involve hundreds or thousands of pages of technical documents, legislation, reports and government correspondence.
Understanding these documents takes time.
Our aim is to help community members understand:
What is being proposed?
Why is it being proposed?
What evidence supports it?
What are the potential impacts?
What questions remain unanswered?
How can members of the community participate?
We believe an informed community is an essential part of good planning.
Transparency Is Important to Us
Community campaigns depend on trust.
That means being transparent about both what we stand for and how we operate.
Protect Oxley Beach is committed to:
clearly identifying our position;
distinguishing evidence from opinion;
referencing publicly available information;
acknowledging uncertainty where it exists;
correcting information when necessary;
respecting different community perspectives;
respecting Birpai Traditional Owner voices;
remaining politically independent; and
being transparent about the way community contributions are administered.
We believe financial transparency is part of that commitment.

This Is Your Community Too
Oxley Beach belongs to the broader community.
It is a place used by residents, visitors, families, walkers, swimmers, surfers, fishers, dog walkers, nature lovers, Aboriginal community members and people simply looking for somewhere to sit beside the ocean.
Protecting a place like this is not the responsibility of one organisation or a handful of individuals.
It is a conversation for the whole community.
Our role is to help ensure that conversation is informed by evidence, respectful debate and meaningful community participation.
Together, We Can Make a Difference
Successful community movements are rarely built overnight.
They grow because people decide that something matters.
One person talks to another.
Someone shares information.
A volunteer gives an afternoon to research a document.
A local resident attends a meeting.
Someone with professional expertise offers their knowledge.
Another person makes a small donation.
Hundreds of individual contributions eventually become a collective voice.
That is what grassroots community action looks like.
Protect Oxley Beach is powered by people who care about the future of Oxley Beach.
If you share that commitment, there are many ways you can help.
Learn. Participate. Volunteer. Share. And, if you are able, contribute.
Together, we can work towards ensuring that decisions about Oxley Beach are made carefully, transparently and in the long-term interests of the Port Macquarie-Hastings community.
