Protect Oxley Beach Port Macquarie is a community-led, volunteer organisation committed to preserving the natural, cultural and environmental values of Oxley Beach for current and future generations.

Oxley Beach is one of Port Macquarie's most natural beaches much which is zoned C2 Environmental Conservation, recognising its high environmental, scenic and conservation values

Oxley Beach is already one of Port Macquarie's most treasured places. A place where people can experience an undeveloped coastline, connect with nature, spend time with family, exercise, reflect, learn about Birpai culture and simply enjoy the ocean as it has existed for generations.

One of the key concerns for Protect Oxley Beach is the proposal to amend the planning controls that currently protect the natural, cultural and environmental values of Oxley Beach.

Port Macquarie is famous for its annual whale migration and close coastal whale encounters. But could construction of the proposed Oxley Beach ocean pool, including heavy machinery, piling and underwater noise, affect how whales use our coastline? 

Another major concern for Protect Oxley Beach Port Macquarie is the suitability of the proposed location within a recognised coastal hazard and vulnerability area.

The proposed Port Macquarie Ocean Pool represents one of the largest recreational infrastructure projects ever considered on this section of the coastline. 

Traffic, parking and pedestrian safety are among the most significant concerns for Protect Oxley Beach Port Macquarie because they were identified as key criteria in selecting the preferred location for the proposed Port Macquarie Ocean Pool.

Accessibility is one of the most important issues for Protect Oxley Beach Port Macquarie

The Port Macquarie Ocean Pool Committee site selection compared ten locations across six beaches. However, a review of the published assessment indicates that several assumptions underpinning that ranking have since changed, while other important planning, environmental, cultural and accessibility considerations were either underweighted or not fully assessed.

Is Oxley Beach Port Macquarie the right location?

Many people believe Council has approved or endorsed the project because it voted to progress the Planning Proposal to the NSW Government for Gateway Determination. This is not what Council resolved.

Protect Oxley Beach Port Macquarie is a grass roots community movement. It does not receive grants to cover costs to operate. Community support is sought via donations.
